Kultur 6

We come at last to a topic that I was not used to in Germany which frustrated me very much: knocking on people's office doors.  Whether I was going to a government office or to my boss's office, it was always hell when trying to get someone to answer.  I would be expecting to have someone tell me to go in, but nothing.  Then all of a sudden, after the second knock I'd get a loud "Ja?!" which would make me think I was bothering them.  Sigh...

Their trash cans are as complicated as the rest of their lives.  I guess it is a benefit because it does help the environment, but it might be a lot easier to deal with all of it if they simply make things simpler for themselves and just combine all of the glass together or something like that.  THese were definitely interesting reads, and I am continuously reminded of how funny small things like these were over summer. Cultures have very different ways of accomplishing the same things.

Finally, their magazines, I was amazed to discover, are so not uptight.  It goes completely against everything we have learned about German culture all semester, which I think is pretty funny.  Seriously, 4 million people read it?!  WOW!
