After reading Twains "The Awful German Language," even though i have only been studying german for a month, i think its extremely accurate. I like how Twain almost satirizes how complicated the german language is. instead of just blatantly criticizing, he gets the reader to think that the intricacies of the german language are funny. i like how he takes a well constructed german sentence and translates it literally into english, and how the two compare. verb placement in german is seemingly arbitrary in comparison to english. although english is probably just as complicated for a foreigner to learn as german is for us, twain makes it seem virtually impossible for a native english speaker to speak german. however, now that i have read this, i will definitely be more careful in the future of learning to recognize nuances in german writing and fix them in my own practice.
