After all the reading about Germans and their tendency to stare and be frank it only makes sense that they are also a people instilled with a wave of pessimism. But with these some what harsh social habits, it does make more sense that they are more enthusiastic about social events such as Carnival and lots and lots of drinking - drinking that is so prevalent it creates a public drinking issue. While cutting down on public drinking would be good to reduce crime rates, it seems far too big of a change to something that the people probably currently appreciate not being persecuted for, to be all that effective. Germans are not all seriousness, not only do they enjoy their alcohol, but according to these articles they have a great sense of humor (and some delicious fast food) as well. It really does come as a surprise to me that Germany would rank so high among other countries when it comes to sense of humor and jokes.
